Drawing on his own Maori ancestry, Owen weaves together insights from our evolutionary story as homo sapiens and collective wisdom. Here are some key points about the book:
Ethos of Performance Coaching: Owen, one of the most sought-after Performance Coaches globally, unveils the ethos that has propelled his success. His methods have been applied in various high-performing settings, including sports, business, the arts, and the military.
Whakapapa: At the heart of Owen’s approach lies the Maori concept of Whakapapa, which signifies our universal human need to belong. It represents a spiritual belief that each of us is part of an unbroken and unbreakable chain of people who share a sacred identity.
Practical Insights: Owen shares practical insights, such as finding your identity story, defining a shared purpose, envisioning future success, and understanding the dynamics within groups. He emphasizes converting diversity into a competitive advantage.
Endorsements: The book has garnered praise, including being hailed as Gareth Southgate’s secret weapon for the England Football team. It was given to every England player during the European Championships.
In summary, “Belonging” reminds us of our true essence and the importance of connection in achieving collective excellence.
