The Certified Scrum Product Owner® (CSPO) was the world's first agile cert for product development. The Grow-Lean CSPO covers Product Owner (PO) behaviors, actions, and activities through the lens of the Scrum Framework. If you want to expedite your journey towards evidence-based product development, where data, not emotion, drives decisions, take a CSPO session. Our session is 100% hands-on, with zero slides, and it is an actual product development course, as compared to the requirements workshop offered by others.
Your trainer is David Bulkin. If you want to know why to choose David, quoting him, "I continue to build stuff with agile.". He has an impressive 40 years of product experience and he is not stopping. He has 24 years dedicated to agile, and has successfully trained over 20,000 students.
What sets David apart is his continued active involvement in product development. His hands-on experience allows him to bring practical relevance to the classroom, ensuring that you gain applicable skills to immediately apply.
David is known for his dynamic, engaging, and interactive training style. He is one of the longest tenured active trainers and his training material has been improved over many years resulting in a workshop that is driven by exercises not lecture.
His CSPO is based entirely on 28 exercises combined with deep discussion resulting in a high energy, fun, collaborative, open environment that encourages participation and deeper understanding.
His session is for you if you are willing to question your own assumptions and rethink how you work. On the other hand, if you want to write all stories in "As a, I want to, So that" format, you may not want David's training.
Join David's training and benefit from his wealth of knowledge, practical expertise, and unique ability to make learning both enjoyable and effective.
It was very interactive and easy to digest. As a new grad with no Agile and Product Owner experience, I must say David is an awesome teacher! He presented the material and used real-life situations. Hands-down 10/10 would recommend
Attended virtual CSPO training by David Bulkin. It was a great learning experience. I will definitely use Grow-Lean again for any future trainings. Great job!
Very effective real life work application of training. David takes extra time to help students understand how each process is applied in real life and how you can adapt it to your work and company culture.
It is clear David really cares about the questions and even example projects members of the class bring to him. He dives deep, gives suggestions, and asks questions because he is genuinely interested. He keeps training exciting and fun, while ensuring everyone is taking away new perspectives, tools, and knowledge.
I highly recommend the Grow-Lean CSPO course! David Bulkin is a great teacher and made the experience super engaging and fun! In addition, the content was highly relevant and attuned to current workplace trends.
Excellent training sessions and very well structured material. Highly recommended
The CSPO (Certified Scrum Product Owner) class I went to was superior to similar classes I have attended. David totally nailed it by using real-life examples, and kept the subject matter on point by effectively steering discourse - Definitely worth it!
It was a amazing learning process on how to be a better PO, but not only, how to manage your time, self criticism, and learn the paths to do the rights questions. How to prepare materials to work with the team and Backlog Itens. I could beeing much more time in class, thanks for you all. David and Alex are amazing and all explains was cristal clear
David is a knowledgable teacher who caters his content to both the subject matter and the student demographics.
As always, class with David was engaging, interesting and informative. Looking forward to the next one!
Grow-Lean LLC provides learning course for all industries using agile methodologies. I took the Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) course. I really enjoyed learning from David Bulkin (trainer), his ability to walk our class through the course layout was a great experience and useful. Grow-Lean LLC CSPO class widened my knowledge base for understanding how to work the product backlog in reasonable (sizable) bits within Sprints through team collaboration, communications, and documenting valuable user stories and test cases. All that I learned is applicable in my current role as a Product Owner. I look forward to increasing my knowledge and taking future courses through Grow-Lean LLC.
Course content was excellent, engaging, and very well-presented. David did a masterful job of facilitating interactive group workshops from a virtual environment, giving attendees hands-on engagement in trying out the tools and techniques taught in his class. My biggest takeaway, however, is that David is intensely invested in making sure that you get the value out of this course that you expect. Due to a conflict, I had to miss the last 90 minutes of the course. Since it was close to the holidays, David had availability the following week, and set up a 90-minute meeting with me to personally go over the course material that I had missed. Very impressed by his dedication.
I'm a new Product Manager at a tech startup and this was my first Scrum training. Prior to this course I read Scrum, by Jeff Sutherland and worked on a Scrum team for 2 months. I really enjoyed the level of interaction that my instructor, Dave Balkin, included in the course! I expected the course to directly address the application of Scrum from the perspective of a Product Owner. In addition to this, the course was also about how Product Owners can deliver better products through Scrum. I was very impressed with Dave's deep understanding of product roles and agile principles. There are a lot of instructional providers in the market. I'll stick with GrowLeanAgile for all of my future Scrum training and certifications. I highly recommend this family of agile courses to anyone looking to break into agile roles or refresh their Scrum skills. These will be especially valuable to fellow military veterans making the pivot into the private sector or adopting Scrum into their teams.
David was a great guide and coach during the session. The course covered a lot in two days, but definitely had its own flair, which made it engaging, interesting, and helpful for my professional development. Really glad that I took this course as David made it clear what is most helpful to most teams when you serve as a PO.
A colleague recommended choosing Grow-Lean and David Bulkin’s CSM and CSPO classes over the other options, and I’m very glad that I listened! We covered the learning objectives and essentials while diving deeper to gain a better understanding of Scrum and the Scrum Master and Product Owner skills needed to progress in our respective Agile journeys, including exploration of common work applications and challenges. David’s experience inspires classes that are energetic, interactive, and packed with value. Each time I left feeling well prepared to implement what I learned. Bonus tip: try the book club & Agile Open Forum events!
Love taking courses with David. This was my second course through Grow-Lean. The first class was the Certified Scrum Master in person pre-pandemic. The Certified Product Owner course was completed in a very engaging virtual course. I highly recommend taking any of their courses as the whole team is very collaborative. I will likely take another course with Grow-Lean in the future.
I enjoyed taking my Certified Scrum Product Owner course from Grow-Lean with David Bulkin. He was a great instructor and easily created a solid and interactive course that allowed us to be engaged and learn/deepen our knowledge on the subject with ease. It was also a great experience to take this course with my classmates as we shared experiences and had a great time doing the hands-on exercises together.
David was an excellent instructor for CSPO. I can honestly say this was the best training course I have ever taken. His practical approach allowed me to bring more value to my organization within days. Highly recommend. Grow-Lean will be the first place I look for additional training.
Simply great! The perspective I had about being a Product Owner changed a lot and made me reconfirm that this is the path I want to follow. The group I was in was very good and David is an instructor that you can tell he really loves to teach. Thank you for all!
Grow Lean provided me with outstanding training. My instructor was personable, knowledgable, and engaged with the class. I felt like I left with a small group of new friends as well as a certificate. I feel much more confident as a product owner after going through this training. I've already gotten job offers that are directly tied to my training with Grow Lean.
David (and Don) were great instructors, probably the best virtual hosts I've experienced. David's enthusiasm and passion for both the topic (PO) and teaching in general were infectious, and he had the whole group interacting well. My only change would be around the length and mixing it in with a working day - the 8.5 hours could have used maybe a few more quick breaks to check emails and ensure nothing has burned down.
Great presentation style with lots of opportunities to ask questions and talk about real life examples which all made for a really enjoyable and informative training. The virtual classroom was great! The breakout rooms were fantastic ! It could not have been any different from having a classroom with physical presence of everyone. The course helped me understand how important a PO’s role is to create an environment where creativity and innovation will thrive; that will empower the team to build a world class product! A wonderfully practical course- both personally and professionally.
David's real world experience and the ability to discuss and share on attendee experience and help them understand how it applies to their workplace. Unlike other trainers who will focus on the theory, David provides real world examples and examples affecting himself and shares it with the class. Class engagement is top-tier, and people leave with a brightened sense of knowledge for Scrum.
An amazing introduction to Scrum Product Ownership. David Bulkin brings a fantastic amount of energy and passion to the subject of Scrum Product Ownership, going beyond standard topics such as backlog refinement and user story creation, and instead putting a primary focus on the concepts and tools related to Product Ideation with plenty of real-world examples. I.E.) "Building the right thing." What a fun weekend, and I learned something too.
The overall flow of the session was very well thought out and all areas related to the Product Owner role were covered in great detail. David Bulkin, the trainer, was really engaging and what helped most is the fact that he has been a product owner himself, which means he can train with his own personal experiences.
Participate in an in-depth, hands-on, 100% live workshop with no slides and no PowerPoint. Improve your product development via exercises and scenarios, going from high level concept down to build ready details.
Along the way learn about the Story Mapping, Story Writing, Shift Left Testing, and other conceptual tools that all Product Owners should know.
There are many Product Owner sessions that are delivered by trainers who have either never done, or have not recently been involved in, agile product development. So, if you want a Certified ScrumMaster packaged as a CSPO you have many options. If you want a deep course on actual agile product development, choose Grow-Lean.
We cover Scrum, but from the perspective of a PO, and we go well beyond the Scrum guide to help you apply techniques fit for your context.
In this session you learn by doing. We will spend a considerable amount of time creating a Positioning Statement, Lean Canvas, Story Map, and Stories, for a realistic scenario.
We will also do exercises like the one shown where learn via a small case study.
As a result, you leave ready to apply what you have learned.
Our session has over 30 exercises and deep discussion leaving no time for fluff, fillers, videos and other non-value added content.
We also avoid oversimplified answers, myths if you like. For example: stories.

David Bulkin is a managing director and head of training services at Grow-Lean. He assists teams as a coach / mentor; delivers training, and builds product. He has trained 20,000 students, and impacted thousands via public speaking and coaching. Unlike many trainer/coaches, he continues to build systems.
David delivers training, including the CSM, A-CSM, CSPO and A-CSPO courses; and has trained over 20,000 students with over 10,000 being with the Scrum Alliance.
David mentors and coaches teams and individuals.
He does all of this while actively building software, filling various roles at different times, including designing, coding, testing, PO and Scrum Master (think about that, someone who does what they teach).
David's commitment to helping others and his continued work as a team member positions him to deliver a practical perspective that will help you boost your career.
David's thought leadership in 2009 on progressive elaboration for agile requirements influenced what is now known as refinement (entering Scrum in 2011). David has successfully applied agile to manufacturing, marketing, sales, finance, and other areas outside of IT. He was an independent reviewer of the original PMI-ACP body of knowledge that fed the creation of the PMI-ACP Exam and has worked on the exam questions for the Certified Scrum Master Exam. David’s broad background ensures you are getting up-to-date ideas to apply.
David is an industry veteran with 40 years of product development experience. In 2001, David's eBanking Team at JP Morgan Chase implemented agile with Kent Beck, the Father of Extreme Programming (XP), and perhaps also Agile, was the team coach. In addition to eBanking, David was also responsible for Online Account Opening, Insurance and Retirement Services.
David's deep experience, his high energy level, and his continued hands-on work helps David stay practical and level-headed . He can understand your needs so you benefit from his experience.
The Product Owner role is critical. Unfortunately, there is widespread misinformation about the role, as many trainers and coaches lack substantial, real-world product development experience. Using the toolbox as a metaphor, this often leads to the misapplication of approaches, like using a hammer to put in a screw.
Our Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) classes are facilitated by actual product development experts with decades of real experience. Going back to the tool metaphor, perhaps you should learn to use an electric screwdriver, not a hammer, if you want to put screws in more quickly.
As this applies to being a PO, using "As a, I want to, So that" for all backlog items is the same as using a hammer to put in a screw. Take the CSPO with us and you'll be equipped with the mental models needed to use the right tool in the right context to maximize the quality of your outcomes while growing your career.
Learn approaches to become effective in the application of evidence based methods...
Learn how you delegate the "How" and collaboratively define...
Create short cycles where items most likely to increase company ROI, add value for the customer, and maximize learning are built and rapidly and released. This....
"Choosing a provider can be challenging, especially as competitors often mimic our site content. What other trainers can't match is my 40 years of product development experience, 25 years of experience in agile, and two decades of teaching.
I also maintain a light class load allowing me to stay actively involved in product development where I build product. Staying current allow me to be authentic covering applied theory / real-world application.
I personally guarantee that the class will be small, tailored to your specific needs, genuine, and highly interactive."
David A. Bulkin
At present there is no examination required to achieve the Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) Certification. Taking the session earns your CSPO if you participate in at least 14 hours of class time.
Grow-Lean covers the certification fees and you receive two years of Scrum Alliance Membership.
The certification will help differentiate you , but more importantly the learning will allow you to interview with more confidence and apply core product development techniques in the work place.
The CSPO also allows you to pursue the Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner (A-CSPO) and Certified Scrum Professional Product Owner (CSP-PO) certification, to complete the Path to CSP. Grow-Lean offers both of these sessions so you can take advantage of your alumni discount.
Product development activities span the value stream , from product ideation to post implementation and the CSPO is an entry level session. As such a wide variety of roles often take Product Owner training.
If you want to improve your product outcomes this session can be appropriate for you.
Appropriate use of agile requires a mindset and approach which may be different from what you are used to. Read the points below to see if the session is right for you.
Our Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) course is designed for those who are ready to embark on a continuous learning journey in the field of Product and Systems Management. Securing a high-paying position in product development requires dedication and effort beyond the classroom. Our course provides a solid foundation from which to grow, not a final destination so you need continued hard work outside the classroom.
Agility is about adapting to the context, and the context often changed, thus requiring the approach to change as well. If you thrive in environments where flexibility and critical thinking are valued over following rigid, detailed instructions, our session will be a good fit for you.
The principles of agile are universal, yet their application can vary across different industries. This session is ideal for those who can embrace nuance and apply agile thinking to their unique situations .
We believe in fostering a learning environment where constructive feedback is a cornerstone. Our trainers are committed to guiding you towards the correct answers, helping you learn and grow. This requires that you be open to accepting feedback which may not match your current mental models.
If you are the type of person who is always learning, and you are willing to apply critical thinking, work through ambiguity, look at nuance, and question your own mental models, our CSM will likely be of benefit to you . If not, you may want to consider a different certification or training provider.

Leave ready to help your organization through pragmatic tips and stories from the instructor’s decades of consulting experience, as well as learning from often equally experienced fellow students.
Take again for free (within 120 days).
We avoid fake approaches like using the "As a, I want to, So that" template for all items in your backlog and instead use studies and many real examples of agile product development.
Custom created training material and approach with the most interactive, visually appealing, interactive boards, in the industry.
Top notch support seven days a week.
No videos! Don't pay to watch YouTube!
No surprise fees when you register or certify (be careful of your training provider).
We maintain a small class size to ensure focus on you. Beware of the 50 person class!
There is no exam for your certification, but you can still get significant benefit from our practice quizzes as they help ensure you know the basics so your classroom experience can focus on the big picture.
If you have time prior to the session use them as a refresher. Or perhaps, during the session you notice some weak spots and review the quizzes post class to fill in the knowledge gaps.

We use Zoom as the core virtual technology and we use Mural as virtual space where we run exercises, and play educational games, resulting in an interactive session.
