Certified Scrum Product Owner

Certified Scrum Product Owner Logo

The Certified Scrum Product Owner®, a.k.a. the CSPO, was the world's fist agile certification for product development and is still the most popular. It covers Product Owner (PO) activities through the lens of the Scrum Framework. If you are product focused and want to expedite your journey towards evidence based product development, where data, not emotion, drives your decisions, take the Grow-Lean Certified Scrum Product Owner® (CSPO) session.

The Basics of CSPO

Participate in an in-depth, hands-on, workshop. Take product development scenarios, that you select, from position statement to concrete test scenarios. Along the way learn about the Lean Canvas, Story Mapping, Story Writing, and other conceptual tools that all Product Owners should know.

This workshop is useful for those involved in product development across experience levels. The session is practical and hands-on but will cause you to think different. The workshop of lots of hands-on work, so you get to practice what you are learning.

Why would you take our session?

  1. Separate myth from fact. For example not all stories should be in "As a..., I want to..., So that" format.
  2. Go deep into actual product development techniques instead of rehashing what is covered in a Scrum Master session.
  3. Use product development scenarios that you and your classmates choose, to practice your PO skills, so you are leave ready to apply what you learned.
  4. Enjoy variety and fun. Yes, you laugh and enjoy the session while learning!

Scrum Alliance® CSPO Sessions can only be delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST). Becoming a CST is difficult and there are less than 300 CSTs world-wide, so companies often use CSTs associated with multiple organizations. We have in-house CST capability so our trainers have been further vetted.

Grow-Lean is an approved Scrum Alliance Path to Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) Provider. In addition to the CSPO we are authorized to deliver advanced courses including the Advanced CSPO (A-CSPO), and the Certified Scrum Professional Product Owner (CSP-PO). So, you can start and stay with Grow-Lean.

Grow-Lean is an approved Scrum Alliance Registered Education Provider (REP), meaning that we can list and deliver continuing education classes that earn you Scrum Education Units® (SEUs).

What You Learn...

Lessons From the CSPO

Be an effective PO by improving outcomes.

  • Novice PO: elicit and gather requirements to build.
  • Good PO: goes a bit further to prioritize and refine requirements.
  • Effective PO: Lead your team through learning loops discovering what to build instead building to spec.

As an effective PO, you determine...

  • Why: clarify the vision and measurable goals
  • What: collaboratively and iteratively define the functionality.
  • When: prioritize on value (business, users, learning).
  • Done: determine when stories, features and releases are done.

As an effective PO, you create short cycles where items most likely to increase company ROI, add value for the customer, and maximize learning are built and rapidly and released. This....

  • To generate learnings which guides the next loop.
  • Allowing for adjustments of plan based on the learnings.
  • Thus maximizing value by increasing the probability of long term success even in the face of short term setbacks.

...What You Earn

By taking the session you earn the chance to become a Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) as long as you actively participate.

The certification will differentiate you, but more importantly the deep learning will allow you to interview with confidence and apply evidence based product management approaches in the workplace.

Practice Quizzes?

There is no exam, but the quizzes reinforce learnings

There is no exam for your certification, but you can still get significant benefit from our practice quizzes as they help ensure you know the basics so your classroom experience can focus on the big picture.

  • The practice quizzes are active learning that increases retention.
  • They apply what cognitive science calls retrieval practice.
  • Retrieval practice makes learning challenging which helps you remember the material.

If you have time prior to the session use them as a refresher. Or perhaps, during the session you notice some weak spots and review the quizzes post class to fill in the knowledge gaps.

Immersive Classroom Experience

Virtual technologies and interactive approaches to keep it fun

We use technologies including Miro, Mural, Google Slides, Google Jam Boards and others to create an interactive training experience.

You use these technologies in breakout rooms with class peers, learning Scrum and Agile hands on.
